Keynote Karlheinz Essl @ Aveiro Universidade de Aveiro January 2026 Keynote: Less is More ?? January 2026, ?? ??? When creating music and art using computers, programming languages and software packages, we are faced with a vast array of tools and possibilities. This often makes it difficult to focus on our intended expression. As this can blur our artistic vision, we must resist these temptations. In this keynote, I will adopt an approach that focuses on the small and simple in order to achieve powerful and compelling solutions that are not tainted by the seduction of achieving more and more and more. Instead, let's focus on the small, simple and humble in order to create a rich musica povera! Starting with Mies van der Rohe, whose artistic motto was 'Less is more', and John Cage, I will discuss some of my compositions for toy instruments and live electronics, including a solo performance of my newest piece T.U.M.P. for melodica and live electronics. Finally, I will present my work in progress Coastlines for a small modular synthesiser, which marks my transition from digital to analogue.

Im Rahmen einer gemeinsamen Session stöbern Karlheinz Essl, Hermann Niklas, eSeL und Erwin Uhrmann alte und neue Palindrome auf und gehen der Frage nach, wovon man sich ein Bild machen kann, wenn man sich kein Bild machen soll, oder wohin mit all den Bildern, die sich ständig jemand macht.
Die Literaten Hermann Niklas und Erwin Uhrmann suchen mit improvisierter Poesie nach den un/passenden Bildern höherer Wesen (und Sphären) in den Köpfen. Karlheinz Essl erzeugt mit seinem Modularsynthesizer akustische Ver/stimmungen, während eSeL mit passenden Fotos aus seinem umfassenden Archiv auf die interdisziplinäre Götterdämmerung reagiert.
